Wirex is a licensed e-money institution under UK laws and regulation. Wirex Visa payment cards are available in Europe for EEA customers. The users can spend in-store, online or make ATM withdrawals in EUR, GBP or USD just like other traditional accounts.
The new partnership with i2c is a similar type of program like the existing Wirex Visa Card Program running in EU. i2c Inc. is based in the Californian tech utopia of Redwood City. They boast cardholders in 216 countries and territories around the world and operate offices in London, Dubai, Lahore, Singapore, Montreal and Sydney.
i2c’s payments processing technology supports advanced payment features and functionality such as multi-currency and multi-purse technology. The Wirex prepaid card leverages i2c’s payments processing platform, which allows issuers to quickly create and scale high-value payment and digital commerce solutions on a single global SaaS platform with industry-leading reliability and security.
The card can be frozen and defrosted from within the app if lost and there are no fees for inactivity. A feature unique to the Wirex Payment Card is CryptobackTM; a program that rewards users with 0.5% of their in-store transactions in Bitcoin when they spend by swipe, chip & pin or tap & go.
